Microsoft Teams FAQ


Q: How do I get access to Microsoft Teams?

A: The online version is available by going to myoffice.mdc.edu and signing in with your MDC account. If you want the desktop version, please contact you Campus Network Services (CNS) department so that they can help you install it.

 

Q: How Do I sign into Microsoft Teams

A: There are two ways to sign into Microsoft Teams

  1. Use a browser to login
    1. In a browser got to myoffice.mdc.edu and login with your account information.
    2. Select Teams from the dashboard.
    3. This will open your Microsoft Teams application.
  2. Install the Teams desktop application (Please contact your Campus Network Services Department for this installation.)
    1. Once Teams is installed open the application and sign in with your account.

 

Q: What is the difference between Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams?

A: In the near future Microsoft Teams will be replacing Skype for Business as the organizations messaging and video conferencing application.  Microsoft Teams offers all of the same capabilities as Skype for business and more including:

  1. Video conferencing
  2. Chat messaging
  3. Meeting invites
  4. File sharing
  5. Team Collaboration

 

Q: How do I create a calendar invite using Teams?

A: From your Outlook desktop client select the calendar icon and choose “New Teams Meeting”.  In order for this option to show up in Outlook you must have the Teams desktop client installed.

Once the new meeting invite is open select the users you wish to invite.

Q: How do I reset my Teams Pin?

A: There are two options to reset your Teams Pin.

  1. From your Outlook Calendar.
    1. open a new teams meeting.
    2. Scroll down and click on reset my pin.
  2. Open your browser
    1. Browse to https://dialin.teams.microsoft.com/
    2. Click “Sign in”

After signing in click, the “Reset PIN” button to reset your Teams Pin.

Q: How do create a team in Microsoft Teams?

A: In the desktop version of Microsoft Teams use the following steps.

  1. Select the Teams tab on the left side of the MS Teams interface.
  2. Click the “Join or create team” button in the top right of the MS Teams interface.
  3. Choose the “Create Team” button.
  4. Choose the type of team you will be creating.
  5. Enter the details for your Team and choose the Privacy mode. By default, all Teams will have a “MDC_ “ prefix automatically added before their names.

 

Q: What are my options for sharing files in Teams?

A: The Microsoft Teams sharing options are as follows:

  1. You may share files with all members of your team or members of a team you belong to.
  2. You can share files with external users with prior approval filling out the “External File Sharing Request Form” located here: https://www.mdc.edu/oit/services.aspx
  3. External users can only share files with members of the Team they belong to.

 

Q: Can I add external users to my Teams site or channel?
A:  No. At this time only internal (MDC) users can be added. ( MyMDC accounts are considered external users)

Q: Who can I contact for support on Microsoft Teams?

A: For Microsoft Teams Support please contact your Campus Network Services (CNS) department.
