To calculate your grade point average (GPA), you need to consider the number of units that each class is worth and the grades that were received for those classes.
- Multiply the number of units in each course by the point value corresponding
to the letter grade you earned.Letter Grade Point Value A 4 B 3 C 2 D 1 F 0 U 0 Example:
Course Units Letter Grade earned Point Value Grade Points Earned ENC1101 3 C 2 6 MAT1033 3 A 4 12 SLS1106 1 B 3 3 In the case of: S = Satisfactory; P = Making Progress; W = Withdrawal; I = Incomplete; NR = Grade Not Reported by Instructor — these grades do not have a grade point value and are therefore not used in calculating your GPA. In accordance with the College’s forgiveness policy, if you earn a D or F in a class and then repeat it and pass, the original grade is not used for GPA calculation, only the final
attempt. The initial grade will appear on your degree audit and transcript, but it will not be reflected in your GPA.
- Add up your total grade points earned.
Example:
Course Units Letter Grade earned Point Value Grade Points Earned ENC1101 3 C 2 6 MAT1033 3 A 4 12 SLS1106 1 B 3 3 Total 21 - Add all the units for the courses in which you received a grade of A, B, C, D, F or U.
Example:
Course Units Letter Grade earned Point Value Grade Points Earned ENC1101 3 C 2 6 MAT1033 3 A 4 12 SLS1106 1 B 3 3 Total 7 21 - Divide the total number of grade points by the total number of units in which you received grades of A, B, C, D, F or U. This will give you the overall cumulative grade point average. This number is then rounded down two decimal places.
Example:
21 / 7 = 3.0 GPA
