What is Florida Residency for Tuition Purposes?

Florida Residency for Tuition Purposes refers to whether a student is an in-state Florida resident or an out-of-state resident, and this classification determines their tuition cost as defined by Florida state statute 1009.21 and the State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.044.

All students who are admitted to a public College or University in Florida must complete an affidavit and provide proof of residency for tuition purposes in accordance with state law in order to pay “in-state” tuition. Students must prove that they have kept legal residence in the State of Florida for 12-months prior to the beginning of the term they are registering for.

Information about how you can prove Florida residency for tuition purposes can be found here.
