How many units can I take during the summer?

The summer term is divided into the following:
First six-week session
Second six-week session
Twelve-week session

See MDC’s academic calendar for term dates.

Students who are in clear academic standing may take a maximum of 12 units for the whole summer term. Students may not take more than 6 units in a six-week session.

For example:

  • A student may take 6 units in the first six-week session and 6 units in the second six-week session.
  • A student may take 6 units in the first or second six-week session and 6 units in the twelve-week session.
  • A student may not take 9 units in the first six-week session and 3 units in the second six-week session.

Students who are on academic probation are limited to 6 units for the whole summer term. See an academic advisor at your campus for advisement prior to registration.
