Can I repeat a course that I have not passed?

You may repeat courses taken at MDC if you received a “W,” “U” “D” or “F” grade. You are allowed a total of two attempts at a single course. Third and fourth attempts are granted at the discretion of the department. Please note that if approved, third and fourth attempts have an out-of-state surcharge fee. All attempts, both the original and repeated, will appear on your transcript, along with the grades you received in each class. Your GPA is automatically recalculated to account for the final attempt only.

If you wish to take a course a third or fourth time, you must contact the academic department responsible for the course you want to repeat (for example for a math class you must visit the math department, for a business course you would visit the School of Business). To view the departmental contact information, visit www.mdc.edu and select academic programs under the academics tab.

You may need to develop a SMART plan with the academic affairs department. More information regarding the Smart plan, can be found at www.mdc.edu/smart/ Please keep in mind that a grade of W is not permitted for either a third or fourth attempt. Therefore, no withdraws are allowed during a third or fourth attempt.
